Just American News recently got a chance to interview artist Fauna Nicole in regard to her new single ‘Behind The Sidelines’. We got insights into her work, her source of inspiration and much more!

Q. First of all, it’s great to have you on our platform, and congratulations on your new single! We’re excited to delve into it shortly, but first, we’d love to learn more about you and your musical journey. Can you share some of your earliest memories of music and how you got into it?

Thank you so much for having me! Yes, let’s dive in. My earliest memory of music goes back to when I was about five years old. I’d dress up in costumes, jump on the couch, and perform made-up songs for my parents and baby sister. It was out of playfulness, but even then, I felt this deep connection to music. I always turned to music to quiet my overthinking. At night before bed I would listen to music and imagine different worlds & scenarios. Before performances I would sit, listening to music to get me excited to give a good show! I believe music is something everyone carries in their hearts—after all, our heartbeat is its own kind of rhythm. That love for sound and song has been shaping the path I walk today.

Q. We loved your single “Behind The Sidelines.” Kindly share the process you followed while working on this song.

Thank you, I’m so glad you loved it! It is an interesting vibe that’s for sure. The creation of “Behind The Sidelines” was a bit unconventional. It actually started as a completely different song that I shelved for a while. Months later, I revisited the melody and realized it would pair better with a new beat I had been holding onto. Combining the old melody with the new beat transformed the direction of the song entirely. As the track evolved, I found inspiration in a past relationship, and the story of the song began to unfold naturally.

Q. In the process of creating “Peace Come Back To Me,” can you share an unexpected source of inspiration that shaped the song?

Absolutely! With “Peace Come Back To Me,” I was struck by how much nature influenced me during the writing process. Sitting outside, watching the wind move through the trees, I felt this overwhelming sense of calm and hope. That connection to nature reminded me how much beauty and balance we can find if we just stop and look around. Nature is within us too if we just take a moment to breathe, after all we as humans are symbolic to the four elements…but that’s for a different talk! Needless to say, lyrics were quick to come by. Toward the end of the process, I was heavily inspired by Duran Duran’s “Come Undone”. I wanted the final mix and master to capture that same mysterious, airy quality. Interestingly, the beatmaker for this track is from Europe, just like Duran Duran—it feels like their influence might have carried through somehow!

Q. Over the years, how has your music process and style evolved? Are there any new elements you’ve incorporated recently?

When I first started, my process was pretty loose—I’d pick any beat I liked and spend ages writing and recording because I was nervous about releasing my music. TBH, I feared being judged, so I overthought every step.

Now, I’m much more efficient and intentional. I take my time choosing beats that align with the style I want to refine. My lyrical process has always been natural—I joke that I write best surrounded by candles like “Phantom of the Opera’s” vibe. Recently, I’ve been exploring ways to define my sound more clearly, focusing on what makes me unique within pop, dream pop, and even bedroom pop.

Q. Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?

Be flexible in the early stages of your journey, and don’t’ be too hard on yourself. Experiment with different art forms, instruments, and styles to find what you love. Once you’ve found your passion, commit to mastering it. Learn everything you can about your craft- never stop learning!

Also, be careful who you trust. This industry can be tough, and not everyone will have your best interests at heart. Use discernment, especially with long-term contracts or collaborations. Protect your art and your energy, hun!

Q. What does art mean to you?

To me, art is the interaction between our inner world and the physical world. It’s how we express our emotions, thoughts, and dreams that words alone can’t capture.

Q. What motivates you in your life?

I’m motivated by the desire to create a better life for myself and to grow into the best version of me. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new and to pour that knowledge into my music. Seeing how my lyrics resonate with fans—how they connect to the messages I share—REALLY motivates me to keep going. I want to be a positive force, helping people navigate life with intention, hope and love. I know people are struggling and if they could hear my music they would know they aren’t alone and there are ways out of the struggle!

Q. Looking ahead, are there any new projects or directions you’re excited to explore?

Absolutely! I’m excited to dive deeper into acting and modeling, which have always been passions of mine. You can catch some of my skits and acting challenges on my YouTube channel: Fauna Nicole Music. I also want to continue refining my music style—exploring genres like dream pop and bedroom pop more intentionally.

Q. Any hints for upcoming collaborations or new projects?

Be on the lookout for a spicy new Single, “Work Me Out, Daddy”, dropping on Valentine’s Day 2025—it’s fun, sultry, and doubles as a great workout song! I’m also working on a cover album featuring fresh takes on songs by Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Chester Bennington, All American Rejects and more. You’ll find them on Spotify (FAUNA NICOLE) Summer 2025!

Q. Lastly, do you have any closing thoughts you’d like to share with our readers?

Think of this as big-sister guidance: be present in the moment—don’t dwell on the past or stress about the future. Focus on what you can control and let everything else fall into place. YOU GOT THIS!
