Q. As an award-winning artist, can you share a defining moment in your career that significantly contributed to your success in the realm of photorealism?
A: When I got an email from Art Tour International, that I was nominated for an award, then I realized that my drawings were internationally acknowledged.
Q. What initially drew you to photorealism, and how did you develop your passion for working with graphite, pastel, and colored pencils?
A: I like it when I see what the subject is. I find it very important that I can capture the emotions of someone in a drawing and I find that doable with the photo-realistic style. When I started with drawing, I always had a big interest in photo realism. It’s not that I don’t like other art styles, but the photo-realistic style eventually emerged.
Q. How do you approach the creative process when starting a new photorealistic piece, and what aspects of your subjects do you find most intriguing to capture?
A: When somebody sends me a photo of their loved one or most favorite pet I know that person or pet, means something big in their lives. So it is almost an honor to capture the emotions in a portrait.
Q. How do you maintain a balance between accurately capturing the fine details of your subjects and imbuing your artwork with your own unique artistic expression, especially when working in the photorealistic style?
A: I always use the same brands for my pencils and pastels, to make it even more special is that I record my drawing process from start to finish.
Q. Throughout your artistic journey, who or what have been your greatest inspirations in mastering the art?
A: A lot of different artists. I used YouTube to practice and watch other art videos, to improve my artwork and there are a lot of great artists from whom I have learned.
Q. As an accomplished artist in the field, what advice would you offer to aspiring artists who are interested in pursuing art and working with similar mediums?
A: It takes a lot of patience and practice. Don’t give up. Use different brands and mediums to find your favorite brand or material. And don’t compare yourself to others, because you have your own unique style!
