Just American News got a chance to interview artist John Jerome. We got insights into his new single, his source of inspiration and much more!
Q. First of all, welcome! It is wonderful to have you on our platform. How are you doing?
John Jerome: Thanks for having me. Things right now are going quite well. We released our second single off the upcoming album on Aug 23rd and have been getting really amazing feedback and love. Anytime I’m releasing music I’m feeling good.
Q. Your latest single It’s Only a Day is wonderful! Please share with us how did you come across the idea for this single?
John Jerome: I’m glad you enjoyed the track. The premise of the song really speaks to the constant nonsense in our lives and how it can be hard to get back to doing what we love to do. I deal with far more things in life than music but when I can get back just sitting and writing I know where I want to be. That’s really what the song is about.
Q. What exactly is the creative process that you follow while making your music?
John Jerome: Creativity comes in all different forms when writing for me. Sometimes it’s a melody in my head that I’ll try and run some chords over and other times it’s a really cool chord progression that I’m trying to find the right melody for. With “It’s Only A Day” it really started with the chord progression and then they way the melody and words bounce around that.
Q. What is art according to you?
John Jerome: Art is whatever you want it to be. Any form of expression where you are exposing a piece of yourself for others to see and critique.
Q. What motivates you and what inspires you in your life?
John Jerome: I am motivated by the idea that I can be better everyday. I’m motivated by the love and compassion of the people around me and their continued support of myself and my music.
Q. Who has been a major influence in your life?
John Jerome: I’d say the biggest influences on my life have been the family members that played music when I was a child. That’s what really got me started in wanting to be a musician in the first place. From my father playing guitar and my grandfather being a singer to my uncles banging on the drums all the time at my grandmothers back in the day. There has been many influences but I think that’s really the most important.
Q. Who are your 3 favorite artists and why?
John Jerome: It’s all starts with the Beatles for me. They were always my go to. I have been singing along with those records since birth. Another one is Paul Simon, he is just such a genius with melodies and arrangements. Lastly I’d have to throw Willie Nelson in there. Really just one of the most unique voices in all of music and a big reason why I love country music so much.
Q. Any tips or advice for the young aspiring artists?
John Jerome: Being a young artist can be tough. It’s really just about perseverance and dedication. If you love what you’re doing them you’ll never work a day. I play my guitar everyday on some capacity, I’m always thinking of new ideas and melodies or cool lyric, even if I’m not playing. Also, just be you.
Q. What lies ahead for you in the coming years? What next? Any collaboration plans with other artists?
John Jerome: Next up will be the release of the full album. This one is special so I can’t wait to have it all out there. I also be putting together a tour to promote the album upon release. Look for the Island Cowboy in your neighborhood. Sometime in the future I’m also looking to do an album of Duets with multiple artists, that’s really a dream of mine.
Q. Lastly, do you have any closing thoughts that you would like to share with the world and our readers?
John Jerome: Just so happy to be able to share my passion with the world. Thanks for listening.
